London Gliding Club 18-19th May 2002

Back for a second year, EMLRA pooh-poohed the idea of a mere static display and instead, under the directorship of George and Mark, opted for manned checkpoints, defensive positions with commanding views, several acres of scrim net and - a bouncy castle.

Well, not everything was quite under our control.

Contributing to the display were Dave Simpkins (SIII 109), Mike Timlett (SIII Lightweight), Mark Buddle (110 MP), George Jackson (SIIA Lightweight), Sue Cummings (SIII Lightweight and Radio Repair Trailer), Rex "SNAFU Comms" Hunt (SIII 109 CL FFR), Owen Wood (101FC GS) and Mike Allmey (101FC Ambulance and SIII 109 RAF Ambulance).

Having organised everything into an interesting looking display, Mark then proceeded to hide everything under an acre of scrim net to make sure no one could find us. Alas, the positioning of the bouncy castle ensured we were inundated with public throughout the day.

Somewhere under that lot there's a whole herd of them. And not a bad collection of Land Rovers either.

An aerial recce by glider confirmed that the display was well hidden, so George has now been charged with the task of providing an PIAC (Projectile, Infantry, Anti-Castle) weapon for next year. Plans are already well underway for the acquisition of either a Lightweight-mounted Wombat or, more overtly, a 105mm Light Gun.
